Tsunami could trigger massive earthquake in Turkey


The danger of a tsunami off the southern coast of the country after a powerful earthquake in Turkey warned the Department of Civil Protection of Italy. Everyone is advised to move away from coastal areas and follow the instructions of local authorities, according to a statement posted on  the  agency 's website on Monday.

The waves, which are formed as a result of the rapid movement of large masses of water, according to calculations by the Tsunami Warning Center of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, can reach southern Italy in the early morning of Monday, in particular, the coasts of the southern region of Calabria, Apulia and Sicily.

While the waves do not exceed 15 cm, according to the observations of specialists from the department. In Calabria, train traffic has been temporarily suspended.

An earthquake of magnitude 7.4 hit Turkey and caused destruction in several cities. Damage was also reported in several regions of Syria, and the earthquake was also felt in Beirut.
